Title : MAMA MIA WE ONLY HAVE A WEEK LEFTMonday, June 14, 2010 : 8:33 PMGreetings fellow soprano 1s, today we did salve regina and ran through the whole repertoire which was (I think) okay. Right, For Salve Regina, Please refer to this video of a Philippines Choir. They don't drop syllables, partly because of their pronunciation and articulation. And besides, they're a children's choir. Since stating the DO NOT's may seem a little nasty I shall talk about the DO's then. According to the video (and what Mrs Lim taught us): SalVE, reGINA,maTER,cor de AE : Syllables not dropped but sustained, lightly float the sound he vae---Fli li li he vae: Hold vae which leads to the climax Ad te sus pi ra mus ge men tes en fles tes : One phrase each, each phrase to be sung in one breath. (Other sections sing ascending scales) LA CRY MA RUM :Get the first note right (f#) VAL A A LEY -Crescendo, leading to the climax (Er ja e go) ER JA E GO -Decisive, strong, bold Feelings in next few lines.... NO BIS- Nooor Bis ( or Norbit if you prefer haha just kiddin) O Clemens- Or Clemans MARI A MARI A MARI..- Each mari to increase in intensity and feeling, be daring to sing the last note, STRETCH AND USE YOUR SUPPORT. OVERALL, this song is to be sang with good airflow as syllables of any off-beat are not forgotten and dropped. All words are treated of the same consistency and feelings, tone color and emotions help to eject a sense of adoration and worship to Virgin Mary ( you don't really have to believe in this though). So singing the notes and blindly following the lyrics and not paying extra attention to how you sing it is not good enough. Not to mention there is only 1 more week to the performance, I think we have lots to improve on. Anyway, tomorrow practice is as usual at 9.00 at the seminar room and don't forget its Rui Ting's Birthday. -Germaine :) |
